Berliner Wasserbetriebe

How Berliner Wasserbetriebe Achieved Transparency and Efficiency Through Blue Ant

“Our goal was to integrate previously separated systems into one comprehensive solution, making project work simpler, more transparent, and more connected,“ explains Chantal Thiele, Head of digitalisation and overall project manager for strategic digitalisation inititatives.

Before implementing Blue Ant, Believer Wasserbetriebe relied on several isolated tools – including internal systems like “Puma”, excel spreadheets, and SAP modules.

“Puma was our lone fighter,“ says Thiele. With Blue Ant, we’re now following the ‘ant principle‘: many working together, strong as a whole.

Today, Berliner Wasserbetriebe leverages Blue Ant for a variety of functions:

  • Central project management – All projects are consolidated on one platform

  • Ressource planning – Transparent visibility into employee capacity and availablity

  • Portfolio simulation – Insights into how new projects impact ongoing ones

  • Interfaces with SAP – Automated transfer of employee and resource data

A key sucess factor of the implementation was ensuring transparency and user acceptance. Through comprehensive change management and a clearly defined authorization concept, the organisation ensured that Blue Ant would be seen not as a control tool, but as a support system that relieves workload and fosters collaboration.

“It was important for us to shape this change together,“ emphasizes Thiele. “We involved employees and the staff council early on, maintained open communication, and provided traning. Blue Ant isn’t meant to burden teams – it’s meant to support them and that’s exactly what's already happening.“
